Potential homeowners are selected on the basis of need, ability to repay a no-profit, no-interest mortgage and willingness to partner with a Habitat affiliate.
Habitat builds modest houses of about 1,100 square feet in the United States. Monthly mortgage payments are low, typically around $275.00 per month for an average of 20 years.
Habitat homeowners pay for their house by investing hundreds of "sweat-equity" hours and by paying their monthly mortgage payments.
House payments revert back to a "Fund for Humanity" so additional houses can be built.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing ministry based on Christian principles. It welcomes all to join in its work.
